| Message | The reason I ask, I insured my old Civic (2000 Si) with USAA at the time I bought it. I asked the agent about modifications and they said simply to keep receipts and they would take that into account. Fast forward to my car being stolen and totaled. After sending in copies of close to $5k worth of parts (stereo and after-market), they replied that anything mechanical added to the car that was there before (so all the go fast goodies) were considered 'maintenance' items and were not covered (Air intakes, exhaust manifolds, exhausts, suspension, wheels, etc). They ended up only honoring the stereo equipment I had added. I was not happy. Declared value is the way to go.
